So I guess, some people would say every girls dream is to become a model, just like most guys dream of becoming football players.
It takes tough skin to be a model, the industry itself is small, and eventually you end up bumping into the same photographers, make up artists & models at castings etc.
Networking is essential, good time keeping & a good attitude at all times.
Girls love to be glammed up and of course the pros are getting pampered before the show. This was not always a great experience for ethnic minority girls because you had to bring your own make up (chances are the make up artist won't have the right colour foundation) & then worry about how they'll do your hair (Afro girls ) !
So obviously I'm speaking in retrospect. Thanks to Rihanna's Fenty Beauty, Mac & other make up ranges that do take different skin tones into consideration, and hopefully makeup artists will be able to up their game & manage to apply make up on all skin types.
The reason why I wrote this is because someone asked me why I gave up, & there were so many reasons I couldn't put in words. I believe if your dream is to become a model, follow it through, learn from all the negatives & you'll succeed.
As for me, I've always known I had more to offer the world & I could not commit myself to model full time.
If you've been a model before or currently a full time model please share your story. As you can imagine in a world whereby social media has taken over, all is not what it seems & for that young girl who dreams of becoming a model, do your research, & you will make it if it's all that you want x
